Brian in 2004

It is sad to have to report the sudden death of BRIAN HODGSON who died at home on Sunday 26th Oct 2008 from a blood clot at the age of 73.
He was a long-standing member of the South Reading Camera club and was chairman for some of that time. He was a member of our video club for more than 10 years and enjoyed his hobbies. He got himself a wheelchair to maintain his independence about two years ago and he managed to attend many of our club meetings last season.
Brian was born in Barrow-in-Furness on 4th April 1935 and did his National Service at Aldershot where he met his wife Valerie and they settled in Reading. They recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Brian will be missed as a member and friend.

OBITUARY - ALAN LOTT

>

It is sad to have to report the death of our last surviving founder member. ALAN LOTT died in the Royal Berkshire Hospital on Sunday 21st September 2008 at the age of 86.
Alan with friends formed the Reading and District Cine Club, as it was then called in 1957. The first few meetings were held in Alan's front room here in Caversham before a more suitable venue could be found. He was the first club secretary.
Alan was born on 24th July 1922 in Southampton. The family moved to Wales at the start of the war where he married Clarice and moved to Reading in 1946. He worked AWE Aldermaston from then until he retired in 1985.
In addition to his hobby of making films, of which he made many, he was always interested in the technical side of making and projecting films, in fact he had his own workshop at home and was able to make many parts which were no longer available elsewhere. He was a fellow of the Institute of Engineering & Technology as well as a Fellow of the IAC Film and Video Institute.
Alan was always active and in fact was at a club meeting just a week before he died. He would always help anyone, particularly a novice.
Alan will be sorely missed.

Denis joined the club (called Reading Cine and Tape Recording Society) in the mid 70's at The Abbey Gateway serving as Publicity Officer on the committee for a number of years in the mid 80's.
He was an active club member up to about 2005 and was always willing to act and help in film making, appearing in many of the club films in various roles. His last part was in the film "Enigma" directed by his old friend the late Bob Hutchinson.
