> It is sad to have to report the death of our last surviving founder
member. ALAN LOTT died in the Royal Berkshire Hospital on Sunday
21st September 2008 at the age of 86.
Alan with friends formed the Reading and District Cine Club, as
it was then called in 1957. The first few meetings were held in
Alan's front room here in Caversham before a more suitable venue
could be found. He was the first club secretary.
Alan was born on 24th July 1922 in Southampton. The family moved
to Wales at the start of the war where he married Clarice and moved
to Reading in 1946. He worked AWE Aldermaston from then until he
retired in 1985.
In addition to his hobby of making films, of which he made many,
he was always interested in the technical side of making and projecting
films, in fact he had his own workshop at home and was able to make
many parts which were no longer available elsewhere. He was a fellow
of the Institute of Engineering & Technology as well as a Fellow
of the IAC Film and Video Institute.
Alan was always active and in fact was at a club meeting just a
week before he died. He would always help anyone, particularly a
novice.
Alan will be sorely missed.
